The ride

Sant Hilari Sacalm sits up in the Guilleries at seven hundred metres, and the road to it is a long, steady drag rather than a wall — the kind of climb you can settle into and ride at a rhythm for half an hour.

Coming back through Santa Coloma and Brunyola is the good part: empty lanes, old villages, and a gradual run downhill almost all the way to Girona.

Passport climb: Sant Hilari

The long drag up to Sant Hilari Sacalm. Not the steepest in the passport, but the one that asks for the most patience.
